Pet Sitting at the Street Fair!

The Sequim Lavender Festival is proud to partner with The Friends of Gentle Paws a local pet theraphy organization and offer PET SITTING at the Lavender Festival Street Fair. This service is sposored by Best Friend Nutrition, A Health Food Store For Pets. www.bestfriendnutrition.com for more information.

The pet sitting area is located on Alder Street, at 2nd Avenue, adjacent to the bus tour stops. The service runs from 9am-7pm on Friday and Saturday and 10am-6pm on Sunday. You can leave your dog in a safe, secure and shaded environment. The dogs arehoused in crates or exercise pens, with water, and an occasional treat (if allowed by the owner). We have provided this Festival service since 200l, as dogs are not allowed at the farms. It can get quite warm in Sequim in late July and it is very dangerous to leave any animal in a car or walk them on hot pavement. Your pet will be in good hands, at a safe place, while you enjoy the street fair or visit the farms. You can leave them for 30 minutes, an hour or all day. There is no fee for this service, donations are appreciated.

The Friends of Gentle Paws is a therapy dog club whose purpose is to utilize their dogs to provide comfort and companionship to people in retirement homes, assisted-living facilities, and Alzheimer facilities. They also visit schools, have a reading program at the Port Angeles Library, and provide many other services for the community.

Contact Chris Cornell for more information on this service. Telephone: (360) 681-4440, email: cornellc@olypen.com.

Leaving you pet at home is the best idea, but if this is not possible, please consider using this service. Even if you do not have your pet with you, stop by andsay hello. Animal lovers are special people and we love to “chat”.

A note from the Friends of Gentle Paws:
The Friends of Gentle Paws is a chartered therapy dog club with Therapy Dogs International, Inc., and was founded in October, 2000.  We are based in the northeast corner of the Olympic Peninsula and serve facilities in Port Angeles, Sequim and Port Townsend.  We take our dogs to visit residents at retirement, assisted living, convalescent and Alzheimer facilities.

In January, 2009, we also started visits to the Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles.  Starting in the 2008 school year, we initiated visits to the Port Angeles High School and spend time with developmentally challenged teenagers.  To help boost the literacy skills of youngsters, we go to five local elementary schools, two pre-schools and the Port Angeles Library and have the kids read to our dogs (the pre-schoolers get to listen to stories or learn to socialize with the doggies).  This is a lot of fun for everyone involved.  We also participate in special activities, including the Sequim Irrigation Festival, Sequim Lavender Festival, health fairs, cure for cancer events, Kiwanis Kidsfest, Special Needs Advocacy Parents (SNAP) and Boys and Girls Club sponsored events.  Since our inception in 2000, our club has made over 1200 visits.
