2009 Sequim Lavender Festival® to feature artwork

“Lavender Quail” by local artist Patricia Taynton

            The 2009 Sequim Lavender Festival has chosen the watercolor “Lavender Quail” by local artist Patricia Taynton as the official festival artwork.  The Festival, which will be  Friday, July 17 - Sunday, July 19, 2009, will showcase the art on the festival’s posters, t-shirts, advertising, and other promotional materials. 

            Patricia is a “photorealist” who paints in watercolor and tempera.  A graduate of Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, she has taught both private workshops and classes at Peninsula College in Port Angels since moving to the Olympic Peninsula.  She is a juried member of Women’s Painters of Washington and has work featured at the Olympic Gallery in Quilcene and Gallery on the Walls in Sequim. 

            Patricia ‘s work has been commissioned by The Franklin Mint, Defenders of Wildlife, The International Council for Bird Preservation, The World Wildlife Fund, and the National Wildlife Federation.   Taynton’s has exhibited in the United States, Europe and the Middle East, where she has won numerous competitions for her art and photography including awards from  Art at the Classic in Grass Valley, CA;  Western States Equine Expo Art Show in Sacremento, CA;  Equine Art Affair in Devon, PA;  and the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Association

            Taynton’s primary subjects usually include equines and other wildlife, with a lifelike dimension.  “Lavender Quail” features a quail and its’ family overlooking rows of lavender.  You can view the painting at the festival website www.lavenderfestival.com.  Commemorative posters and other items with the artwork will be available at the festival or through the website in July.

The Sequim Lavender Festival has been named one of North America’s Top 100 Events by the American Bus Association and is the largest lavender event in North America.  The three day event features Seven Farms on Tour, each offering lavender-centered activities, demonstrations, music, food, u-pick, and more.  Admission to the Farms on Tour is $15, with no charge for children 12 and under. The Street Fair in downtown Sequim offers more than 150 craftspeople, musical entertainment, great foods and wine tasting.  There is no admission charge to the street fair.  Free parking is available in Sequim and at each of the farms and a free shuttle bus service connects the entire festival.  Many Community Events compliment the weekend schedule to entertain everyone.
